As the new year approaches, four of our team members share their top tips for making reusables work for you. Drawing on their expertise, they’ll help you turn your 2025 reusables resolutions into reality.
Category Manager Stiina: “Choose reusable packaging that suits your business needs”
Switching to reusables starts with selecting the right packaging for your business. “To make the right choice, take a moment to think about your setup,” Stiina suggests. “What kind of food or drinks will you serve in these reusable cups or containers? How will they be handled? And who will be using them?”
This process helps you identify the quality and size of products that suit your needs.
“At Verive we offer over 100 reusable products of different qualities. All of them are dishwasher safe, microwavable, affordable, of high quality and personalisable with your own design.”

Brand Manager Jet: “Consider what makes sense in terms of legislation and sustainability”
There are many reasons to consider switching to reusables, or a hybrid solution combining both reusable and disposable packaging. “Legislation, like the Single Use Plastics Directive (SUPD) and Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) on EU level, is restricting the use of disposable food packaging for on-site consumption. This means that when you’ve got a business canteen, restaurant or host events, legislation is probably pushing you towards reusables,” Jet says.
“However, when you have a take-away location or more open environment, the use of disposables might make most sense, for both legislation and the environment. It depends on whether you’re able to actually reuse your reusables, as the study we conducted with the University of Exeter shows.”
Jet’s advice?
“There’s no one-size-fits all in sustainable packaging solutions.”
“To make a future-proof decision, consider legislative developments and data-based insights on sustainability measures, such as our Life Cycle Assessment. In doubt what’s the best way forward? Just reach out to us, we’ll happily think along.”
Junior Marketing Manager Nerea: “Leverage reusable cups and containers to strengthen your brand”
Switching to reusable food packaging not only enhances your business’s reputation but also creates a valuable opportunity to strengthen your branding.
“There are countless ways in which you can make your brand shine using reusable cups, soup containers, or meal boxes.”
“Think of adding an eye-catching design, using cups in your brand colours with your logo, or opting for a full-colour IML print covering the entire surface. You can even mix and match, pairing a cup in one colour with a lid and sleeve in another,” Nerea says.
“Earlier this year, we visited the factory and created a video showcasing some of the customisation options available. In this article, you’ll discover the various printing and laser engraving techniques that can help bring your vision to life.”
Business Developer Remco: “Set up a simple, user-friendly return system”
“The key to a successful implementation of reusable packaging, is a simple and user-friendly return system“, Remco says. “Change always comes with challenges. Luckily new technologies enable us to provide smoother user experiences without user apps or having to go through many steps to redeem deposits. These developments help to make adaptation and transition to a circular system easier.”
Return systems can range from manual setups to technology-supported options like RFID chips or QR codes.
“A return system with technology enables automated deposits or penalties as well as tracking your reusable products through the system.”
Remco adds: “All these options might feel overwhelming. But you’re not alone in setting up a suitable system to make reusables work for your business. We can help.”
